About Me:
Life has not been kind to me, but despite everything, my heart is still full of love and I’m ready to find the home I’ve always dreamed of. I’m a big cuddly boy who adores his people, loves learning new things, and thrives when I can put my clever shepherd brain to work. I’m hoping to find a home with a secure large garden, where I can feel safe, avoid my triggers, and spend my days being a loyal best friend and devoted companion.
My ideal home would be somewhere peaceful, with patient and understanding adopters who can continue my training, enjoy spending time with me, and give me the love and security I’ve missed for so much of my life. After spending 18 months of my life largely confined to a crate, and then months waiting patiently in kennels, all I really want is a place to belong.
Everyone who meets me seems to fall in love with me. I’m a firm favourite amongst the staff and volunteers here, and they all tell me that my day will come. They see the loving, affectionate boy that I am and know just how much love I have to give. Every single one of them wants to see me finally get the happy ending I deserve.
I’ve waited far longer than any dog should have to wait for a family of his own. Somewhere out there is the person who will look beyond my struggles, see the incredible dog I am, and give me the chance I’ve never had. In return, I’ll be your loyal shadow, your devoted friend, and your biggest supporter. I have a lifetime of love waiting to give—I just need someone willing to give me a chance.

Training and Behaviour
Car Travel: Jumps in, gets very excited! Can be shepherd vocal on route to his destination, tends to be quiet on the way back
Recall: Good recall – will need to be an on lead dog or long line
Housetrained: Fully housetrained
Reactivity:
Dogs: He is reactive towards other dogs and is currently undergoing training to help him build confidence and develop more positive responses. His adopters will need to be committed to continuing this training and management, and he would benefit from a home that can provide suitable space and avoid frequent close encounters with unfamiliar dogs.
Traffic: He can also be reactive to traffic, particularly in busier environments. Ongoing training is helping him make progress, but he will be happiest in a quieter location with access to peaceful walking routes where he can continue to build confidence at his own pace.

Exercise and Lifestyle
Exercise Requirements: Moderate/High – he thrives when his brain is exercised as much as his body.
Daily exercise needs: Around 1-1.5hrs hours of combined physical and mental exercise per day – ideally opportunities to engage his active shepherd mind.
Favourite activities: Training sessions, scent work, tracking games, enrichment activities, puzzle toys, learning new skills, and exploring quiet walking routes. He thrives when given a job to do and enjoys activities that allow him to use his intelligence and work closely with his person.
Public Places
Cafés, pubs, shops, town centres: He is not comfortable in busy public environments and can find these settings completely overwhelming. He would much rather spend his time enjoying peaceful countryside walks, secure fields, training activities, and quieter locations where he can relax and feel safe.

Medical: Klaus was previously spending a lot of time in an adapted crate due to his previous owner’s medical condition and wasn’t walked for 18 months and has since spent a long time in kennels. Due to this, he has been having physio exercises to help rebuild his muscles. He absolutely loves these!
Veterinary care: He finds veterinary visits very stressful and can be fearful when being examined. When he arrived in our care, his coat was severely matted and he required a full groom under general anaesthetic, which was understandably a traumatic experience for him. He also underwent treatment for a foreign body obstruction, which we believe may have been stress-related. Any future veterinary care should be approached with patience, understanding, and fear-free handling wherever possible.
Grooming: Despite his difficult start, he thoroughly enjoys being groomed and is very cooperative with regular brushing and coat maintenance. Keeping on top of his grooming routine will help ensure his beautiful long coat remains comfortable and tangle-free
