Our Dogs

Hi, My Name is Otto

Breed: Weimaraner X Husky

Gender: Male

Age: 4 Years 1 Months

About Me:
Otto is a 4-year-old Weimaraner x Husky, male and neutered. He is a friendly boy who is looking for a new home due to his owner’s ill health. Otto can take a little time to warm up to new people and build trust, so he will need a patient and understanding home that allows him to settle at his own pace. Once settled he is a loving, comical, sweet boy.

Home Compatibility
Children: 13 years + As Otto takes time to warm up to people, we would recommend older children in the home. He currently lives with children aged 1–6 years old. He is described as friendly with children in his current home.
Dogs: Can be social and interested in other dogs but can be selective and dominant. Otto can resource guard around other dogs, so he must be the only dog in the household.
Cats: Not suitable to live with cats due to his prey drive.

Home Alone Time
Comfortable being left: Can be left alone for periods of time.
Maximum Known Duration: Up to 4 hours.
Sleeping Arrangements: Sleeps well at night. In the kitchen

Training and Behaviour
Car Travel: Whines in the car usually on the way there – quiet on return
Recall: not fully reliable – would need long line or secure space
Housetrained: Can have accidents in the home and will need reminders and consistency with his toileting routine.
Lead Walking: Strong on the lead and currently walks using a Gentle Leader. He will benefit from consistent, positive lead-walking training.
Training Needs: Will benefit from a patient, reward-based approach to help him settle into his new home, build confidence with new people, improve lead manners and establish a consistent toileting routine.

Exercise and Lifestyle
Exercise Requirements: As a Weimaraner x Husky, Otto is likely to benefit from regular physical activity and opportunities to explore. Owners should build up to a consistent routine appropriate for his fitness and needs. He is strong on the lead, so secure handling and continued use of suitable walking equipment are important.
Mental Stimulation: Would benefit from enrichment activities such as scent games, food puzzles, sniffing opportunities and short, positive training sessions to provide mental stimulation alongside physical exercise.

Public Places
Comfortable in Public Places (e.g. cafés, pubs, shops, town centres): Otto takes time to warm up to new people and situations. He would be best to live a more rural life than city centre.

Medical
Neutered: Yes.
Vaccinations: up to date
Flea Treatment: up to date
Worm Treatment: up to date
Additional Veterinary Information: Otto can find veterinary visits challenging and needs to be muzzled at the vets. His new owner should discuss his handling needs with their veterinary practice in advance to help make visits as calm and safe as possible.
